Our 5-Step Coaching Process

At Real Life GPA, we guide students and families through a proven process designed to build confidence, independence, and real-life success.

1st

Assessment

We begin by understanding the full picture. Through conversations with the student and family, we review history, identify current challenges, and explore the thoughts, behaviors, and emotions involved. This allows us to clearly define where support is needed most.

2nd

Stabilization

Before moving forward, we focus on stabilizing the current situation by addressing the most urgent concerns. Together, we prioritize immediate needs and reduce the challenges that may be preventing progress.

3rd

Goal Setting

Students work with our coaches to develop meaningful short-term and long-term goals across five key life areas:

  • Student & Career Success

  • Financial Responsibility

  • Health & Well-Being

  • Relationships

  • Basic Life Skills

4th

Strategic Plan

Next, we create a clear and intentional action plan. This documented plan serves as a roadmap to help students move toward their goals with purpose and direction.

5th

Action & Growth

Students begin implementing their plan while receiving ongoing support from their Real Life GPA coach. Through guidance, accountability, and encouragement, they build the skills and confidence needed for lasting success.

Frequently Asked Questions

You've got questions. We've got answers.

How often do Coaches meet with a student for 1:1 coaching?

To see meaningful transformation, we recommend a minimum of 12 one-hour sessions over a 3-month period. While most sessions are conducted with the student individually, some meetings may include family members when appropriate.

Typically, coaching sessions take place once per week, but we remain flexible depending on the student’s needs. During times when a student needs additional support or stabilization, coaches may meet multiple times during the week for shorter check-ins and follow-ups.

This flexible approach allows us to provide consistent support during high-priority challenges while maintaining progress toward long-term goals.

What does Real Life GPA offer that a parent cannot?

The Real Life GPA team brings more than two decades of experience helping teens and young adults develop the skills needed for real-life success.

Through years of working specifically with students, we have developed proven strategies and tools that help guide young people toward financial, physical, and emotional independence.

Our “Secret Sauce”

First and foremost — we are not the parent.

Many parents experience frustration when their child struggles to listen to guidance at home. Bringing in a coach who does not have the same emotional dynamic can be a powerful turning point.

Our coaches help students:

  • Understand behavior patterns and responses

  • Develop meaningful goals

  • Create a structured plan

  • Take consistent action

Accountability and Measurable Progress

A core part of the Real Life GPA process is accountability.

Students demonstrate progress through measurable data such as:

  • Grades and academic progress

  • Assignment and task tracking

  • Budget and financial tracking

  • Evaluations and progress reports

  • Parent feedback

  • Evidence of completed goals and tasks

We focus on real progress — even in the smallest steps.

A No-Judgment Approach

At Real Life GPA, we operate with a no-judgment philosophy. We understand the struggles students face because we’ve worked with countless teens and families navigating similar challenges.

Our role is to support, guide, and empower students while helping them build confidence and independence.

Simply put:

We are on the student’s team.
We are on your team.
Together, we are a team.

What is the difference between a psychologist, psychiatrist, and a Real Life GPA coach?

Real Life GPA coaches focus on teaching practical life and executive functioning skills that students need to succeed in everyday life.

Examples include:

  • Time management

  • Organization and planning

  • Study skills

  • Task initiation

  • Focus and self-control

  • Stress management

  • Communication skills

  • Decision-making

  • Financial responsibility

  • Healthy habits and routines

  • Relationship development

  • Basic life skills

Our coaches often collaborate with therapists, psychologists, and other professionals to ensure the student has a strong support team.

When appropriate, a coach may recommend the involvement of a licensed therapist or diagnostician to address specific mental health concerns.

Is Real Life GPA therapy?

No. Real Life GPA does not provide therapy or clinical mental health services.

Instead, we work as part of the student’s support team, helping turn goals into action while building the skills and confidence necessary for long-term success.

What coaching plans does Real Life GPA offer?

We offer several coaching options to support students at different stages:

  • 3-Month Plan – 12 sessions

  • 6-Month Plan – 24 sessions

  • 1-Year Plan – 50 sessions

All coaching sessions are conducted virtually, allowing us to work with clients across the United States and around the world.
