Frequently Asked Questions

How often and how do Coaches meet with the Student for 1:1 coaching?

To see the true transformation, a Coach would meet with a student a minimum of 12 one-hour sessions during a 3-month period. Some of those may be with family included, but most will be with the student alone.

While the general rotation may fall every week, we are flexible in that a student may need coaching multiple days through the week to stabilize or get through some higher-priority challenges. So, meetings can be broken up throughout the week to allow frequent check-ins and follow-ups.

Real Life GPA offers 3-month (12 sessions), 6-month (24 sessions), and 1-year (50 sessions) plans. All meetings are virtual so we have clients all over the world.

What does Real Life GPA offer that a parent cannot?

The Real Life GPA team has more than two decades of experience bringing out the best in others. Years of focusing on teens and young adults have provided an immense amount of action research, allowing us to expand our knowledge and tools to use when guiding others towards success in achieving financial, physical and emotional independence.

What is our secret sauce?

Well, first, we are NOT the parent.  Ask any parent if they have ever struggled with their child listening to them when offering guidance and you will get a resounding YES!!

Bringing in someone who does not have an existing emotional attachment is a game-changer.. A Coach breaks down behaviors, responses, and patterns and addresses them in an intentional manner.  The result is developing goals that become part of a plan and move into action.

Also, we establish a process for accountability. Students have to demonstrate progress. We measure progress towards goals based on data. We have to see the evidence!

Depending on the goals, evidence is acquired through various sources: grades, assignment tracking, budget tracking, evaluations, progress reports, parental feedback, evidence of completed tasks, and more.

At Real Life GPA, we operate on a no-judgment policy. We understand the struggles. We’ve seen and heard it all. Heck- we may have been there ourselves.  But we are hyper-focused on progress even in the smallest of steps.

When you add in our years of knowledge and experience, it becomes a results-producing experience for our Clients and Students.

We are on the Student’s team. We are on YOUR team. We ARE a team.

It is all about the team.

What is the difference between a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist versus a Real Life GPA coach?

Real Life GPA Coaches are experienced and trained in guiding and teaching specific skills necessary to succeed in life. Examples include study skills and executive functioning such as time management, organization, planning, self-control, task initiation, focus, and stress management.

We also focus on communication, follow-through, accountability, task management, money management, decision-making, developing healthy habits and routines, developing relationships, basic life skills and more.

Real Life GPA Coaches often work closely with the Client/Student’s mental health professionals to ensure the team is communicating and leveraging resources for success. A Coach may even suggest the support of a licensed therapist or diagnostician in addressing areas of concern.

Real Life GPA does not practice unlicensed therapy. We are a part of the Student’s support team  that puts things into action while guiding and building confidence every step of the way.
